Web App for online gift store
My work:
- Development of a custom Web App in Next.js with WooCommerce as a Backend
- Webhosting setup
- WooCommerce installation and configuration
- ACF for custom fields and post types
- Setup of GraphQL as an interface to communicate with the Web App
- Setup of products, categories, Mailchimp integration, payment gateway, shipping zones etc.
Requirements: The customer was a small business specialising in custom gift boxes. Visitors could create a gift box by choosing several products and designing a greeting card to go with the products. The user interface included a screen to choose the products, a custom coded card editor and a custom checkout screen.
Solution: A WooCommerce webshop as the backend for a Next.js Web App as the frontend. The design was done by a graphic designer and had to be implemented with pixel perfect precision. A custom Web App was the best solution because of the very high level of customization needed. The infinite possiblities of product and card combinations were easier to achieve this way. The card editor was able to save the designs as JSON. The PDF was created on the fly when needed for printing and had a QR code that linked it to the order.
Unfortunately the business is not active anymore. The website is still online as for now.

- Setup of products, categories, product reviews, filtering, Mailchimp integration, payment gateway, shipping plugin etc.
Requirements: The customer is an adult toy web shop with a focus on LGBTQ+ friendly products. The layout and design of the shop was previously done by a graphic designer and needed to be implemented with pixel perfect precision. The customer wanted a good presentation of the products with filtering options, integration of reviews, newsletter integration and other typical e-commerce functions.
Solution: A WooCommerce webshop with a custom theme developed on the basis of Storefront. The only way of achieving pixel perfect implementation of what the graphic designer imagined was to start with a blank canvas (or in this case a starter theme). Plugin development for foodcoops
This project is near and dear to my heart as I am very passionate about sustainable food production. As a member of various food cooperatives I have clearly seen the need for a simple, yet powerful tool that allows foodcoops to be more efficient.
WordPress and WooCommerce are the ideal platform, as they are widely available, easy to install and maintain, yet highly customizable through plugins and themes. Therefore I chose to develop a plugin that extends WordPress (with WooCommerce) to be used as an application to manage a foodcoop.
The plugin is in active development and is used by hundreds of users in Switzerland.
Functions include:
- Custom backend interface developed with React and Material UI:
- Create and manage collective orders
- Import and export products, edit product information, categories, suppliers and producers
- Manage members
- Bookkeeping
- Dedicated settings page
- Addition of a user wallet with a custom WooCommerce payment gateway
- Custom front-end product table and ordering flow developed with React
- Custom importing and exporting functions for orders and products (PDF, CSV, XLSX)
